Canada – Labour disruption
The designated operator of Canada, Canada Post, wishes to inform that the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has launched a national strike, effective from 25 September 2025, following an announcement by the Government of Canada regarding changes at Canada Post.
Owing to the strike, there will be no movement of mail within Canada. Therefore, Canada Post requests that all Union member countries and their designated operators temporarily stop sending all mail (letter-post, parcel-post and EMS items) to Canada, with immediate effect.
International items received as of 25 September will be held in secure locations and will not be processed until further notice. No additional scans of any sort will be carried out or transmitted at this time (including at item and receptacle level).
Once service resumes, items being stored will be inducted, processed and delivered as quickly as possible on a first-in first-out basis. However, delays should be expected as Canada Post processes the backlog and stabilizes its operations.
Regular updates on all postal service disruptions in Canada are available at www.canadapost.ca/negotiations.
Canada Post remains committed to arriving at a negotiated agreement with the CUPW.
Canada Post thanks all partners and customers for their understanding and cooperation.
