Spain – postal operrations affected by torrential rains

Recovery and reconstruction work is ongoing, but numerous areas continue to be affected by the disruption caused by damage to buildings, roads and other infrastructure. It has not yet been possible to resume full distribution and delivery services in the affected areas, and some shipments are therefore being held until full service can be restored.

Update of 18 November 2024

The designated operator of Spain, Correos y Telégrafos, has provided an update on the situation following the torrential rains on 29 October 2024.

The areas still affected are in the province of Valencia (46XXX postcodes), which saw great damage and destruction to homes and businesses. In addition, the communications network (roads, bridges, streets and railways) was affected, and reconstruction is underway in various places, meaning that transport in the province is still disrupted.

Work is being done to restore full operations but, in some areas, Correos y Telégrafos is still unable to provide a delivery service. To provide backup for inoperable post offices, temporary offices have been set up.  However, the sorting facility in Valencia is back in operation, and service to the province of Castellón (12XXX) is back to normal.

Update 06.11.2024

The designated postal operator of Spain, Correos, wishes to inform that, due to the severe damage caused by the recent DANA, the postal service is experiencing operational issues in the most affected areas, particularly in the postcodes listed at the end of this message.

The damage caused by the DANA has led to road closures, flooding, and significant damage to infrastructure, which is hindering access and the distribution of goods in certain postcodes detailed below. Despite efforts to maintain continuity of service, Correos is currently unable to guarantee deliveries in these areas, and normal operations are impacted until conditions allow it to resume activities safely.

Correos is working continuously in collaboration with local authorities and teams to restore operations as soon as possible. Correos will also maintain regular communication with partners to inform them of any changes in service conditions and will notify as soon as it is able to resume normal deliveries in the affected areas.

Correos deeply regrets any inconvenience this situation may cause and kindly asks for understanding and cooperation during this critical time. Correos’ priority remains the safety of its employees and its customers’ shipments, as well as the swift recovery of normal service.

Update 01.11.2024

In addition to the postcodes mentioned in the previous exceptional event message, the designated postal operator of Spain, Correos, wishes to inform that the province of Castellon (12XXX) is having delivery issues as well.

Correos is working to re-route to other regional sorting facilities some of the volumes directed to the affected area.

The designated postal operator of Spain, Correos, wishes to inform that due to the torrential rain that affected the eastern and southern Spain on Tuesday 29th October, several infrastructures (roads, railway lines, bridges) have been cut off.

Specially affected are the provinces of Albacete (postcode 02XXX) and Valencia (postcode 46XXX) where deliveries have been suspended in most of the postcodes.

Some localities of Cadiz (11XXX), Teruel (44XXX) and Almeria (04XXX) have been affected.

Officials from the weather department have placed parts of Catalonia and western Andalusia under maximum alert. Correos thanks its partners and customers for understanding and will provide updates.
